Julie's time in BoulderOn November 15th, Fresh Produce's "What's Your Color?" contest winner, Julie Hawkins, arrived in Boulder to redeem her Grand Prize. The prize included lodging at Boulder's charming Bradley Inn, a $500 shopping spree with a personal shopper and a one-on-one meeting with our fabulous design team. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved and it went something like this: Julie spent the morning with Fresh Produce designers, Jeanna and Beth, and with founders Thom and Mary Ellen Vernon. They all oooed and aaahed over the upcoming Spring 07 and Transition 07 product samples, which haven't yet hit stores. Needless to say, Julie was thrilled to at the opportunity to have a sneak peek! After a fun-filled morning playing with new product, Julie joined us for our annual Thanksgiving Potluck lunch, where she was introduced to the company over a delicious multi-cultural feast. After the fantastic meal, Julie headed down to the Fresh Produce store on Pearl Street Mall, a prime Boulder destination, to spend her $500 prize. With the help of Kathe, personal shopper extraordinaire, she had absolutely no trouble blowing her wad and even claimed some great stuff from the upcoming Spring line arriving in stores in January. It was such a fun day for everyone and a wonderful opportunity to spend time with a loyal Fresh Produce fan. Thank you, Julie, for the time you put into your winning essay and for coming to see us. We had a great time, too! ![]() Julie at the Fresh Produce Corporate Office ![]() Julie and Kathe at the Fresh Produce store on Pearl Street Julie's award winning essay:It's the way the water sparkles in the sunlight off the lakeshore. It's the vividness of the sky on a clear summer day. Skye reminds me of everything fun; beaches, jumping waves and building sandcastles. My love of the water it what attracts me most to the color skye. I can spend an entire day by the lakeshore and still not get enough. Skye is flirty, girly and fun. I love the way colors pop when skye is used as a background color. I met one of my closest friends while wearing my sweetheart floral strap dress. I was at work walking down the hall and noticed a woman walking towards me wearing a Fresh Produce dress. I stopped her and commented on her dress and we started talking about our love of Fresh Produce. We've been friends ever since and have been on several shopping trips to our favorite boutique which caries an extensive line of Fresh Produce! We pour over the latest Fresh Produce catalogs, mapping out our next excursion consisting of lunch, shopping, laughing and having fun! Live life to it's fullest and have fun!! That's what Fresh Produce is all about!!
I live in Fresh Produce all year long Choosing ONE color, why that would be wrong! A blue-eyed beach girl slowly turning gray - Your wonderful clothes make the years fade away. For the upcoming season Neptune is my choice To the color of the autumn ocean, this shade gives voice. As the last days of summer begin to fade into fall I'll close my eyes and remember it all. Warm summer breezes and tropical nights Your many sea colors just always feel right Known everywhere for my beachy, casual styles Wearing Fresh Produce brings a lot of smiles A soft sheen shrug, velvet scarf or topstitched capris So many choices, oh which will it be? Will Hush, Lettuce or Lotus most make Neptune glow? And surround me with comfort despite the upcoming snow? Fish, palm trees or flip flops, all signs of the beach Fresh Produce year-round keeps that feel within reach. As the leaves start to turn and temperatures drop Warmer days will be just ahead in my new Neptune crop. With one in college, and 13 more years of tuition due, Winning this contest would be such a coup! The only thing better would be a Fresh Produce store nearby I may have to call Key West to get the pieces I want-sigh! Thanks for many years of wonderful clothes!
I'm wearing Peri right now: the peri pocket t with the pearly button, paired with a peri skirt emblazoned with a whole constellation of starfish! Peri reminds me of wild asters that brighten the hiking trails in early autumn, just when trees start to turn golden. Or think of the sky shading into soft purple at twilight, right after sundown: that's peri. If you're very lucky, you'll find a spiral seashell with tracings of peri along its turbaned top and rippled throat. Peri takes its name from periwinkles, the bright-eyed pinwheel flowers that peep out of dark-green foliage in forests in springtime. Peri has personality -- it flirts at the edge of unconventionality. Peri is the color of giggles. Peri is youthful and playful. It's a color that makes you say, I like who I am, and I love this life. The softness of peri is soul-soothing. When I wear peri-- my peri capris, my starfish peri tank top, or the outfit I have on right now-- I know I'm going to have a great day. And peri looks amazing with purple-sequined flats! Thank you, Fresh Produce, for making your comfy, happy sportswear in this spunky, happy color!
I love Peppers because any color in the red family makes me feel alive. For many years, I had very low self esteem and I did not want to wear any color that called attention to me. However, I found an inner strength and an appreciation for myself when I received my Masters Degree and went back to church. I also found the color Peppers (or red), as well as Pink and Neptune around that time. These colors make me feel alive! I feel confident and free. I feel like fire and water all in one. Peppers reminds me of being in church on Sunday morning hearing a song that makes me tap my feet. When I go places wearing Peppers, I feel like all eyes are on me, but instead of thinking they are picking me apart, I now think they are wondering: How can I get some of her fire!!! |

Picking a favorite Fresh Produce color is like giving an artist one color with which to paint. The colors are all perfection, but I am especially passionate about Sunflower. Sunflower is the color of the sunrise in the morning and the sunset at night. Wearing it is like putting on the warmth and happiness of a bright summer day. It makes my mood sunny and gives my face a glow. I love to layer it, and it goes great with denim. It has taken me through many of life`s simple pleasures, vacationing with my family, learning to golf with my son, walks at the lake, gardening in my backyard, shopping for my daughter`s first car, or cooking a meal for friends or family from the bounty gathered at the farmer`s market. Work or play Fresh Produce is what I reach for when I want the comfort of a favorite pair of jeans. Sunflower is the perfect color to blend with all the colors in a garden. It is the color to light my memory making moments, and like the colors of the sunrise and sunset, Sunflower is the beginning and end to a perfect day.

Peppers is a feisty color, not to be ignored; it is a passionate color, reminding me to see the world with my heart and soul, as well as with my eyes. Peppers recalls the unique fiery glows held by three seasons: the glorious sunsets of late summer, the magnificent palette of autumn leaves, and the bewitching embers of winter firelight. I like to wear Peppers close to my face; I love the way my Peppers Autumn Garden henley brightens my cheeks, as if lending its rouge to my skin, so I donÕt even need makeup. I pair Peppers with Fresh Produce neutrals, so it remains the focal point it deserves to be. At age 48, I am a first-time and full-time Mom, blessed with an amazing 33-month-old son. Having been a career woman for many decades, I feel lucky to be able to dedicate myself to motherhood now. Peppers imparts its spicy energy to me, supporting my new running, jumping, reaching, climbing, digging, dodging lifestyle. While rediscovering the world from a toddlerÕs perspective, wearing Peppers helps me exude both confidence and enthusiasm à essential qualities for a Mom-on-a-mission, exploring my second childhood with a voyager extraordinaire!

I love Fresh Produce Peri so much that 4 years ago when we painted our house I convinced my husband that we needed to paint it that color. I took my favorite pair of FP shortalls into the paint store and had them custom match the color. When I give new friends directions to my house, I always tell them that they can't miss it --it's the one that's Fresh Produce Peri! Fresh Produce Peri looks great on me AND my house. :) (although I wore pink in the photo so I would show up!)

After long debate of which was my favorite Fresh Produce color, I finally chose black. It came to me the other day when my 11 month old son, who is audio and visually impaired started "cooing" every time I walked past him. At first I didn't think much of it, assuming he was just making noises to himself. Until the third time I passed him, It hit me that he was more alert and active on the couple days I had worn my FP black shirts with the different colors for pants. (yes, I have to confess, I wear something Fresh Produce 5 out of 7 days a week due to the great washability!!) I believed that when I wore the black t's he focused on the logos and the difference between the top/bottom. When I said something to his vision therapist, thinking I was possibly "losing it", she explained how the "black background" was very alertful to his brain activity therefor helping him focus somewhat better. So needless to say I have started a desperate search to find more Fresh Produce black tops. I love the black because of it's contrast for my son's vision and flexibility for my wardrobe.

Picking my favorite Fresh Produce color is not an easy task - I pretty much love them all. Thankfully, they all go so well together that I own something in many of the colors! If you're going to make me pick a favorite - I'd have to say celadon. I love bright colors (didn't use to - I used to only wear natural colors). Celdon makes me think of spring and summer. I can wear celadon during the cold midwestern winter and remember warm breezes and sunshine, and be happy. I think of the beach, and that makes me happy. I can wear celadon in the summer and it goes perfectly with a tan. Also, it makes me think of fresh fruit (hence, the great name for your company - Fresh Produce). It makes me want to go to the grocery store for fresh mango, kiwi, bananas, apples, and berries. That's part of the reason picking a favorite is so hard - I love them all! I've added a picture of me celebrating my birthday last summer in Carmel, California wearing my favorite color in my favorite shirt (which I purchased in Carmel that summer).

My favorite Fresh Produce color is skye. It reminds me of November 20, 2003 when I married the man of my dreams. We shared an unforgettable time on the beach in Mexico exchanging our vows. Your color of skye represents how the sky looked that day. I will never forget it.

I was in the bulk section of my small town market when I spotted the familiar color and design of Fresh Produce across the aisle in the Deli. Oh! A kindred spirit! Normally you would not see me bonding with a complete stranger. I honed in on the subject and leaped over the potted plants and birthday balloons to reach her. My newfound friend and I exchanged our appreciation of the clothing and admired what each of us was wearing. Of course, I had on one of my few cherished pieces. What else do you wear just about everywhere, especially in summer? It is not easy to find Fresh Produce where we live. As the Deli clerk waited patiently for us we agreed that, although outside our budgets, these clothes are an investment. The quality, along with easy wear/easy care performance, makes the outlay worth every penny. They pay you back with years of wear, comfort and simplistic care. I am most drawn to the peppers and sunflower colors. They are warm, bright and happy, and we all need a little warm, bright and happy. I had to take my own picture, and it is awful!!

Every spring I begin watching for the beautiful wave of color the Fresh Produce racks of clothing bring to my favorite stores. This year started my love affair with cocoa. I spotted it and instantly fell in love. This soft, pinky brown reminds me of the clothing colors in the 1970's. I got married in a dress this color. It was a soft cocoa background, strewn with tiny ivory-colored flowers, with an ivory lace bodice and deep ruffle at the bottom. When I put on my new Fresh Produce outfit, it brought me back to that day, standing in a beautiful park, holding a bouquet of peach colored roses with baby's breath and tumbling ribbons, tears of happiness in my eyes! I was about to embark on a new chapter of my life. It seems like such a long time ago. Now my 3 children have all grown up, and once again I am embarking on a new, exciting chapter of my life. When I saw this outfit, it brought me back to that happy August day, thirty one years ago. Now I can wear this nostalgic color once again, with a 2006 design and style - just like me!

My inner child. That's what this color is. Although I'm nearing forty, (eek!) I still remember the color of Bubblegum ice cream, my favorite. It takes me back to the County Fair, pink radiant cheeks windburned from a day in the sun. What a wonderful day that was! If I close my eyes, I can still smell the popcorn and feel the wind whipping through my hair as I braved the rides. Lotus brings back who I was once, yet still am. It's the color of first love, happiness, playfulness...that wonderful stressfree existence that we've all felt and didn't realize to cherish. I'm including a picture of my daughter wearing Fresh Produce, because she's enjoying these memorable moments now!
